Fairgo is an escrow platform, not a subscription service. When a homeowner pays for a job, the money is captured and held in escrow via PayPal (AFSL 354514) until it is either released to the tradie or refunded to the homeowner. This policy explains when each outcome applies.
You receive back the full amount you paid. Fairgo's 5% platform fee is only ever deducted from what's paid to the tradie at the point of release. It is never charged to you separately, and it is never taken out of a refund. If a job is refunded, no platform fee is retained on that amount.
If you raise a dispute, an independent inspection fee of $250 AUD is charged upfront (a separate PayPal charge, not deducted from the job's escrowed funds) before an inspector is assigned.
Tradies can choose to receive their payout immediately for a 1.5% fee, instead of the standard free payout (sent automatically 2 days after approval). This fee is opt-in, deducted from the tradie's own payout, and is not refundable once the instant payout has been sent. You're paying for speed, not a reversible service.
Disputes are reviewed within 1 business day of being raised. Once a refund is approved, PayPal typically processes it within a few business days, though the exact timing depends on PayPal and your bank or PayPal balance.
Nothing in this policy limits any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law (Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) which cannot be excluded. Where a guarantee under that law applies and is not met, you are entitled to a remedy regardless of anything in this policy.
Fairgo facilitates payment and independent dispute inspection between homeowners and tradies. It is not a party to the trade contract between you and the tradie, and does not itself perform, supervise, or guarantee the trade work. Refunds and releases are decided based on the agreed completion criteria and, in a dispute, the independent inspector's findings against those criteria.
If you have a concern about a payment, please contact us first at admin@fairgo.edos.com.au so we can try to resolve it directly. This is almost always faster than a PayPal or bank chargeback. Raising a chargeback while a dispute is already open with us may result in a hold on the job while we investigate.
Fairgo relies on PayPal to move money. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by an outage or failure of PayPal or other third-party infrastructure we depend on, beyond using reasonable efforts to retry and resolve the issue once services are restored.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
This policy is governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia. Unresolved disputes may be taken to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) or the courts of New South Wales.
